Student's Credit Card Dilemma

I read a column in the Bizweek section of the Star newspaper this morning and came across the issue on pre-paid credit cards. Apparently, there are so many hidden charges that most of the consumers unaware of. That includes activation charges that can go up to RM25.00, inactive card charges (this one is teribbly wrong) and some other silly excuses for the bank to charge you. Therefore i would suggest for students to opt for Student's Credit Card facilities that are offered by some of the popular banks in town. Nevertheless, parents are still required to endorse the application. Why do i write about credit cards? Because i was thinking that i probably can write on how to manage your credit card debt in the coming future. I surely have many experience on this one. .n.g.

Student Car Insurance Anyone?

I never thought that I would be writing this out. But hey, i am a concerned father. For most countries in the US and Europe, they have special insurance for students under 25 years old. Their premium is higher but the coverage is something you have to look into it. I am no insurance agent so i have no idea if this has been implemented in Malaysia. What i do know, in the UK the premium for anyone below 25 are higher because of the risk the posses. Again, i have no idea why i am writing about insurance today. This is out of the blue. Sleep anyone? *evil dooze* p/s: A Project Manager shouldn't be writting this kind of article. .n.g.

Image

This was like our standard practice for the last, i don't know, for many years i guess. At the end of the event, we were having Malik's 6th birthday bash. Every young ones took turn to blow the candles. Now, let's start a countdown for Syawal!! .n.g.

The Radar Antenna

I have nothing fancy to write today. Therefore, instead i am writing something that will make most of you fall asleep. The Purpose of the radar is to act as a transducer between free-space propagation and guided-wave (transmission-line) propagation. The function of the antenna during transmission is to concentrate to the radiated energy into a shaped beam which points in the desired direction in space. On reception the antenna collects the energy contained in the echo signal and delivers in to the receiver. Thus the radar antenna is called upon to fulfill reciprocal but related roles. Well, did i manage to make you sleepy? Now go to sleep!! .n.g.

It Is OK to Forget!

Image
There are reasons on why human must forget. The brain is designed to accept certain input and input overflow can cause a person to become insane, lost, metally ill etc. Have you ever watched a movie called Rain Man, where Dustin Hoffman could memorize the whole Yellow Pages but can barely manage himself? That is what happened when there are too much input but no output. Our brain can only accept a certain amount of information at one go. To be able to add more input, we must erase some and hence we tend to forget. So be glad when you are forgetting of something. As we humans are referred as "an-nas" in the holy Quran, which means "the forgetful ones". That's why you can see certain "ayat" are being repeated in the same "surah". This is to show how weak and forgetful we are! Nevertheless, be thankful! p/s: Looks like i am forgetting something down there .. hehe .n.g.

Introducing AUTIPOT!!

Image
It sounds like a brutal, savage kind of robot. But don't be fool you human! This AUTIPOT is a new breed of human-like ... eerr food! Coined by the ever popular autobot (my own autobot) named Luq-Skydudu. Huhu, it took us long before we can understand that AUTIPOT is in fact LOLLIPOP! .n.g.

Chasing Meteor Shower

I might be lucky tonite. All depending on how clear is the sky. I don't have a decent camera with me to capture the moment, especially when low light is concerned. I have so many things in my wish list .. or "to buy" list. A DSLR is one of it. Who wants to wish upon stars or meteor showers? .n.g.

Yellow

Image
Colours give me different vibes. Today i choose YELLOW. First thing in my mind, yellow reminds me of DIGI Yellow Man. OK, i have to admit that they had successfully tagged yellow with their products into our mind. But digging further inside me, the song "Yellow" by Coldplay struck into me. I somehow rather clueless about the meaning of the lyrics. Nevertheless, i sang this song to my sons when they were babies. (oh they both had "yellow" @ jaundice). And what so meaningful yesterday, i could play the song again in my car .. thank goodness!! Feel like i've told this story to someone before ... DE JAVU !! hehe ... By the way, Chris Martin (of Coldplay) explained that he was inspired by Yellow Pages. I can understand why .. hehe. If you've been to Eiffel Tower, then you probably have seen the stairs above. Yellow, Lyrics and Song by Coldplay. Enjoy!! .n.g. Look at the stars, Look how they shine for you, And everything you do, Yeah, they were all

He's All Grown Up!

Image
Malik will be 6 years old on 21st August 2009. Time has gone by, too fast. I still remember when i had my first outing alone with him, just the two of us. He just turned 1 that time. He can't even walk. But he started to talk at such early age. He first called me 'ayah' when he was 9 months old. Then the rest, are just history. He can memorize all the car's logo that are belong to the family members when he was 16 months old. A Nissan signboard will make him quickly say ayah. A Honda advert in a paper and he will say Atuk or a Proton logo somewhere and he will say mama. I wish i could write every single thing that he had done for the last six years, but that is virtually impossible. As for me, i will remember every moment .. not the day itself. Happy 6th Birthday Malik! .n.g. p/s: Ayah loves u so much!

We Can Only Do So Much

Image
I always emphasize that this blog is about reminding myself, it should not reflect on other people. As we just human, who are we to judge people. As much as i want, i want to be kind to everyone. But how far can we go? When people ask for help, most of the time every human are willing to help. It is just natural. It will motivate you that the fact you have done a good deed. But i bet everyone had experience when while you are giving the help, the person you are helping makes you feel as if you are the one who wanting to help instead. In simple Malay "terhegeh-hegeh nak menolong". I reckon this is one of the reason why we see today people are "reluctant" to help. We are scared. We don't want to be labelled "terhegeh-hegeh". And i can understand why because i've felt the same for so many times. But did i ever quit? No. Because we can only do so much. We can't decide for everything. We can't tell people what to think. Be Kind. Be Nice

Paris 2006

Image
Paris has always been my favourite place to go. Been there twice in 2005 and 2006. Though i've lived in the UK from 92-96, it never crossed my mind to visit Paris until recently. Though my recent visit to Paris was due to work. Why do i like Paris? No 1 - It's a unique city. No 2 - The language. French somehow gives a different feel whenever i hear it. There are too many places to go. If ever i would feel weary, this is definitely a place i want to be. How about Paris next week? .n.g.

American Tune

Not many people knew or have heard about this song. But definitely one the best of tunes around for decades. The melody and the lyric are just spot on! It is about a Jewish immigrant living in New York. Heck! i can i always look it as a Kelantanese immigrant living in KL or rather PJ. .n.g. Words & Music by Paul Simon Manys the time Ive been mistaken And many times confused Yes, and often felt forsaken And certainly misused Oh, but Im alright, Im alright Im just weary to my bones Still, you dont expect to be Bright and bon vivant So far a-way from home, so far away from home I dont know a soul whos not been battered I dont have a friend who feels at ease I dont know a dream thats not been shattered Or driven to its knees Oh, but its alright, its alright For we lived so well so long Still, when I think of the Road were traveling on I wonder whats gone wrong I cant help it, I wonder whats gone wrong And I dreamed I was dying I dreamed that my soul rose unex

Inspired to Run

I always wanted to run again. My back will not allow me to force myself to run as i used to. Unexpectedly today, i read a blog from a man who is twice my age yet still having the spirit to run a marathon. He had been in coma a few years back due to an accident. i will write more later. it is time to run (or rather walk!) Ok, i just finished my 20 min walk. It is a combination of slow walk and fast walk. I will keep this pace for a week then only i will add to 30 min walk. This will last for a few weeks until i am ready to run again. Since Ramadhan is coming, a night walk would be nice. Feel free to check this blog http://oldmanrunning.org .n.g.

Kota Bharu Day 1 Part 2

Image
We arrived in Machang at about 4:30pm. I have two sisters whose houses are side by side. They bought 2 acres of hilly land and divided into two. Half of the land was flattened and they built two 1-storey bungalows. The other half was left untouched, upon which it becoming the orchard for durian, rambutan and cempedak. The durian "belum masak". so we only had rambutan left. The trees were full of "kerengga", so we cut off the trunks with fruits. Since i was craving for durian, my brother in-law did get me special "local durian" from deep inside the village. It is just durian kampung but i am very sure it taste diffently. So we off to Kota Bharu at 6pm and arrived at my parents house at 7pm. Our initial plan was to meet Mek Ta @ Dr Nik Azrita at White House at 10pm. For those who are not familiar with White House, it is an old style kopitiam which had been in the same place since the early 70s. It is exactly in front of the Masjid Besar Kota Bharu. I use

Kota Bharu Day 1 Part 1

We were scheduled to depart at 9am. My instruction to the two bots were to sleep early (successful) and to wake up early (unsuccessful). The two bots decided to take extra sleep while i decided to figure out if i could repair my car receiver. I opened the bonet (that's hood if u live in the States). Took out the fuse box lid. By using a long nose plier, i pulled the fuse, it says 15A correspond to the label "radio". I was testing my luck, rotated the fuse 180 degree. Now the label 15A reads upside down. Heck, i was trying my luck. I had done my trial and error with electronics worth millions of ringgit (sshhh .. don't tell anyone). So a trial and error for a cheapo receiver posed no harm. Then "voila!!" ... the receiver worked! After 4 months of no entertainment in the car, finally i could have a decent entertainment and keep my saving for PSP. Not for me, but for the bots. So now we could enjoy the trip with some easy listening. next, Part 2. n.g.
